Airboat Safety & Maintenance Notice

At Bereg Canada, customer safety and the reliable operation of our airboats are extremely important to us. This notice reinforces the importance of regular maintenance, proper inspections, and safe operating practices for airboat owners and operators.

Airboats are high-powered machines operating under demanding conditions. Engine vibration, rotational forces, and normal wear can affect bolts, fasteners, propeller assemblies, and other critical mechanical components over time.

It is essential that every owner/operator performs a thorough inspection before each use and ensures that all required maintenance is carried out.

Critical Pre-Use Safety Inspections

Particular attention must be given to the following:

  • Propeller Assembly: Inspect propellers, hubs, mounting bolts, and associated hardware for cracks, looseness, movement, damage, or unusual wear.
  • Critical Bolts and Fasteners: Check all critical mounting bolts and fasteners according to the manufacturer's inspection and torque specifications. Never assume bolts remain secure simply because they were previously tightened.
  • Engine and Mounting Components: Inspect engine mounts, brackets, and structural connections for cracks, looseness, or signs of movement.
  • Drive System: Inspect belts, pulleys, couplings, and related components, where fitted, for wear, alignment, and correct tension.
  • Engine and Fuel System: Check oil levels, fluid leaks, fuel lines, fittings, and connections.
  • Propeller Guards and Safety Equipment: Confirm all guards, protective components, and safety equipment are properly secured.
  • General Condition: Investigate unusual noises, vibrations, damaged wiring, loose parts, or changes in operating performance.

Important Safety Requirements

Do not operate your airboat if any component appears loose, damaged, worn, or otherwise unsafe.

If unusual vibration, noise, or changes in performance occur during operation, shut down the engine as soon as it is safe to do so. Do not resume operation until the cause has been identified and corrected.

Never inspect, adjust, or work near the propeller or drive assembly while the engine is running. Before maintenance, ensure the engine is off, all moving components have stopped, and accidental starting is prevented.

Owner Maintenance Responsibilities

Owners and operators are responsible for ensuring that their airboats are inspected, serviced, and maintained in accordance with the applicable manufacturer's recommendations. Pre-use inspections and ongoing maintenance are the responsibility of the owner/operator.

This includes:

  • Performing pre-use safety inspections.
  • Completing scheduled servicing and maintenance.
  • Checking critical fasteners using the correct procedures and specifications.
  • Promptly addressing wear, damage, unusual vibration, or mechanical concerns.
  • Keeping a record of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

A previous successful trip or the absence of visible problems does not guarantee that an airboat is safe for its next use.

Failure to perform appropriate inspections and maintenance can increase the risk of equipment failure, property damage, and serious personal injury.

We strongly encourage all customers to take these responsibilities seriously and ensure that anyone operating their airboat understands the required safety precautions.
